Chicago, April 11 (RHC)-- In the United States, frontline healthcare workers held a national day of action to demand personal protective equipment, or PPE, for healthcare workers -- including employees of nursing homes and long-term care centers.

In Chicago, over 100 workers from Stroger Hospital and the Cermak Cook County Jail hospital joined an SEIU Local 73 protest demanding universal testing of frontline healthcare workers, increased healthcare funding and an extension of paid sick leave and other benefits.

Chicago union leader and activist Tyrone De’Andre Hawthorne told reporters: “We are the essential workers that you hear about on the news every day.  And since we can’t go home and work from home like those who are making six-figure salaries, then, damn it, give us our hazard pay!”
