Colombian Minister of Defense Carlos Holmes Trujillo died early Tuesday morning of COVID-19

Bogota, January 26 (RHC)-- Colombian Minister of Defense Carlos Holmes Trujillo died early Tuesday morning of COVID-19, family sources reported.  The brother of the Colombian official, José Renán Trujillo, confirmed the news through his account on the social network Twitter.

"With deep sorrow, I receive the passing of my brother.  He fought for his convictions and died defending them," he said in the tweet.

The Colombian defense minister was hospitalized in an intensive care unit of the Military Hospital of Bogota, after it was announced on January 12st that he had been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of COVID-19.

"After being evaluated by the medical staff of the Military Hospital of Bogota, it is reported that strict monitoring of his critical condition and medical care is maintained," the Government published in a statement on January 18th.

Holmes Trujillo, who was born in Cartago, in the department of Valle del Cauca, was about to turn 70 years old.
