Bogota, January 28 (RHC)-- Violence against social leaders continues in Colombia, evidenced by the fact that the Ombudsman's Office of that South American country reported that on Wednesday night, the lifeless body of the councilman of the municipality of Argelia, Cauca, Fermiliano Meneses Hoyos, was found.

The social and political leader of the Liberal party was detained, taken to the village of El Plateado in the municipality of Argelia, and subsequently murdered on January 16th.  The governor of Cauca attributes the crime to members of the National Liberation Army (ELN).

In a statement issued by the entity, "the Ombudsman's Office rejects the kidnapping and subsequent murder of which he was a victim, acts that violate human dignity and have caused great suffering to his family, friends and relatives."

Meneses was a leader in the community of Argelia and was the victim of an attack as a politician in the municipality, where he was recognized in that southern region of the department for his struggle for the substitution of illicit crops, the defense of the territory, and his opposition to aerial spraying with glyphosate.
