Lula calls on the people to fight and stop the destruction of Brazil

Brasilia, February 12 (RHC)-- Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called on the people of Brazil to stop the destruction of that country by the government of far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro, during a virtual event held to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the creation of the Workers' Party (PT).

Speaking at the forum, broadcast through digital platforms, Lula considered that this political force has to go to the streets, to "wake up the people from this collective anesthesia that society has been taken over, manipulated by the media."

Lula said that the Worker's Party "has to understand that the Brazilian people need us more than in any other historical moment.  Lula pointed out that the PT has a project and a social development agenda.

The former labor leader criticized the surrender of national patrimony to financial capital.  In this sense, he cited as an example the recent approval by the National Congress of the bill that would grant greater autonomy to the Central Bank.  Lula also mentioned the sale of subsidiaries and refineries of state-owned Petrobras. "They are succeeding in destroying what was built for many years in our country," he warned, alluding to the oligarchy's intention to dismantle society and eliminate all resistance.
