Efforts continue to assist those affected by rains in Venezuela

Caracas, September 3 (RHC)-- The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, says that work continues to attend to the communities affected by heavy rains and floods in the South American country.  

"The important thing is to meet the needs of the people," said the president and added that government authorities are mobilized to assess the damage and help those affected by the rains.  The president also indicated that, on this day, he was informed about the flooding and overflowing of the Neverí River in Barcelona, Anzoátegui state.

For his part, the protector of the entity, Deputy Luis José Marcano, commented that the average balance of rainfall in the river does not amount to more than 3 meters, however, after the passage of the tropical waves, it rose to more than 7 meters.

In addition, he specified that it is being carried out to quantify all the material damages caused and the homes affected, while a shelter was set up in the region, where 356 people are being assisted.

On the other hand, the protector of the state of Mérida, Jehyson Guzmán, indicated that in the entity almost 200,000 cubic meters of sediments have been removed in the municipalities Antonio Pinto Salinas, Tovar, Zea, Arzobispo Chacón, in articulation with the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), the fire department and Civil Protection.

"We are beginning to evaluate the process of reaffaltation and the affectations in housing," he indicated and then added that 39 machines are working on the recovery and food has been parachuted in the most difficult to access areas.

On the performance of the military forces in the recovery work, President Maduro stressed that "what our military is doing is saving the innocent, helping those in need."    Likewise, he said that what can be repaired must be repaired and if it is not possible, to deliver what the families need to guarantee their wellbeing.
