Díaz-Canel at the CELAC Summit

Mexico City, September 18 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel gave a forceful response at the CELAC summit to diatribes by Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou, who attacked the island's government and defended the Organization of American States, the OAS.

In a request for a response granted by Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, who led the meeting of Latin American and Caribbean leaders, the Cuban president replied that the Uruguayan leader is unaware of the reality of six decades of U.S. blockade against his country.

That, he said, is the main obstacle to the current problems, and in his speech he does not mention it, he also omits the neo-liberal packages that sow hunger and misery in nations of the continent, which are supported by the Organization of American States (OAS).

@Nor does he mention the instability and financial speculation, the unpayable foreign debt and the poverty and inequality that this system generates, and the existing abyss between the rich north and the poor south due to this discrimination, which is also supported by the OAS," he pointed out.

The OAS is at the service of the United States in the isolation of Cuba and supports military interventions, dictatorships, even in his country, Uruguay, crimes and disappearances, and attempts to contain the resistance of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples.

Diaz-Canel said that the OAS is silent in the face of torture and assassinations, and it is not in Cuba where there are disappearances take place.  He also pointed out that the OAS generated and supported the coup d'état in Bolivia in 2019.

The reply of the president of Cuba was closed with a round of applause from the audience.

Lacalle was given the right to counter-reply and responded with a song against the Cuban Revolution, which was also refuted by Díaz-Canel, who told him that he had very bad musical taste and called on him to find a place and space to discuss all the issues he wished publicly.
