Tegucigalpa, January 30 (RHC)-- The new president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, stressed on Saturday that during her administration she will strengthen the ties of unity and cooperation with the government of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In a message posted on her official Twitter social network account, Castro, who last Thursday took office for the 2022-2026 quadrennium, said she was "pleased with the visit of (Mexican) Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard yesterday."

The Honduran head of state said she was optimistic with "the perspective of joint work and cooperation that is envisioned in the relationship between our nations."  "The ties of unity and cooperation are now stronger between Mexico and Honduras", said Xiomara Castro.

The Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs went to Tegucigalpa to be present at the inauguration of Castro, with whom he held an interview last Friday.  Ebrard, in a tweet published that same day, described the conversation with the new Honduran president and her team as "warm and fraternal".

"Development, migration, youth building the future, Sembrando Vida, human rights, CELAC and anti-corruption among the most relevant topics. We wish much success to the president and to Honduras.  Mexico in solidarity," said the Mexican official about the interview.
