Santiago de Chile, July 16 (RHC)-- The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, has called on citizens to join the challenge of better redistributing wealth, on the occasion of the "great inequalities" existing in the national context.

During a speech at the opening of the general assembly of the Chilean Association of Municipalities (AChM) held in the city of Viña del Mar, the president called on the mayors to consider the actions of local development in the municipalities, for a better use of all resources.

"We have to aim at growth, promote productivity, work together with the State and the private sector, and distribute more fairly the wealth that Chilean men and women produce", said President Boric.

The Chilean president referred to the fact that the existing inequalities in the southern country "are not only of income" and acknowledged that "territorial inequality is one of the burdens" that have characterized Chile since its beginnings as a nation.

In this sense, the head of state announced that this year a budget of "111,000 million pesos has been earmarked for investment in municipal development, so that each Chilean municipality will have a direct investment greater than it has had in the last eight years".

The president stressed that in the next four years, the country will face three major challenges: to strengthen the autonomy of territorial entities, to advance in a culture of transparency and to strengthen digitalization, in order to advance in issues that allow minimum conditions for development.

Gabriel Boric assumed the presidency of Chile in March 2022, and among the priorities of his administration is the focus on local development actions and the empowerment of regional governments.
