Brasilia, August 3 (RHC)-- Brazil's presidential candidate for the upcoming October elections, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, led on a massive popular rally in Campiña Grande, Paraiba state, in the northeast of the country.

Thousands of people gathered at the People's Park in the city of Campiña Grande as part of the electoral campaign "Let's go together for Brazil and Paraiba" -- where Lula highlighted the goals achieved during the periods of the Workers' Party (PT) in power and strongly criticized the management of the current government, according to reports from Spanish-language television stations.

Lula also rejected the attacks of the current president Jair Bolsonaro to the electoral system, without evidence, and said that "Bolsonaro is not afraid of the electoral system, but he is afraid of the people and they will give an answer at the polls next October".

Lula emphasized that Brazil left the hunger map during the PT governments with Lula and Dilma, but returned to that situation after the parliamentary coup, with 33 million people living below the poverty line.

During the event, it was recalled that Paraiba was favored by popular policies and social facilitation, with the transposition of the São Francisco River and water storage to alleviate the prevailing drought, in addition to the 500 thousand families benefited by the Bolsa Família program.

The Campiña Grande Town Square was attended by thousands of people who traveled three and four hours from different points of the state to see and support Lula and his companions, in the midst of the atmosphere for the Festivities of St. John, a traditional celebration of the region, according to press reports.

The meeting also served to materialize an alliance of the PT with the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB) in Paraiba, a traditionally right-wing party with its own candidate for the presidency, but they say that from that state they will promote Lula on the way to his election.

Lula was accompanied at the presentation by Veneziano Vital (MDB), senator and pre-candidate for the State Government and pre-candidate for the Senate, former governor Ricardo Coutinho (PT), members of the Movement Vamos Juntos por Brasil (Let's Go Together for Brazil).

The Let's Go Together for Brazil Movement is an alliance of progressive parties for the reconstruction of the South American country, today filled with hunger, unemployment, inflation and the dismantling of the public patrimony and sovereignty, caused by Bolsonaro, they point out in their manifesto.

So far, Lula is leading all opinion polls for the next presidential elections, in which he intends to defeat the candidate and current ultra-right leader, Jair Bolsonaro.
