Panama City, August 9 (RHC)-- Panamanian workers, social organizations and union movements announced on Monday that they will continue mobilizations due to the Government's failure to comply with the commitments made at the Single Dialogue Table.

The Sindicato Único de Trabajadores de la Industria de la Construcción y Similares (Suntracs), informed that the unions will partially close some avenues and carry out out peaceful demonstrations on Wednesday, the 10th.

On the other hand, the general secretary of Suntracs, Saúl Méndez, denounced in a press conference the increase in food prices by businesses, the main issue that was addressed in the Dialogue Table and which has not had an effective response from the Government.

"The 72 articles agreed upon by the Government do not appear," reaffirmed the union leader and reiterated the responsibility of the Executive in the application of social policies.  He also underlined the problem with fuel, affirming that many citizens are not being supplied with this resource.

There are no announcements regarding medicines and their prices, noted Saúl Méndez, and the Executive has not given answers to the increase in the cost of the electricity tariff either.  "The Government is delaying, does not offer answers and manipulates the facts," said the secretary of Suntracs.

Panamanian workers are demanding a salary increase, since there has been no general increase for more than 35 years, according to the Frente Amplio por la Democracia (Broad Front for Democracy).

Likewise, the FAD stated that "we contemplate the importance of a general increase in salaries, pensions-retirement and salary indexation.  In addition to policies that include salary adjustments according to the cost of living."
