Russia has no plans to cancel May 9 parade

Havana, April 10 (RHC) - Authorities are preparing the May 9 military parade on Red Square on the occasion of Victory Day, with no plans to cancel it, Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov announced today.

The presidential spokesman specified that there are regions such as Kursk, on the border with Ukraine, that decided to postpone the parade, but that is a prerogative of each territory, according to the existing security situation, he added.

The main parade, which as always will be in the city of Moscow, will take place and is being organized together with special measures to guarantee the safety of the population, Peskov said. The Kursk region, which borders the Ukrainian territory, maintains a high level of terrorist threat.

The local government reinforced the checkpoints in the border areas, at the entrance and exit of the city of Kurchatov, where the Kursk nuclear power plant is located, in addition to redoubling controls on the main roads in the region.

The authorities pay more attention to security in educational infrastructures and facilities, as well as inspecting train and bus stations. City buses are equipped with special emergency signals.
