"OEA" is the Spanish acronym for the OAS... La Organización de Estados Americanos.

Mexico City, May 10 (RHC)-- Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said at a morning press conference on Wednesday that the Organization of American States (OAS) should disappear because "it serves no purpose."

"The only thing it has done is to endorse all authoritarian acts against legitimate, legal, popular governments in Latin America," said the Mexican president.

López Obrador's statements come after the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, which depends on the Organization of American States, made a proposal to the Mexican government to eliminate the section "Who's who in the lies of the week" from the presidential conference.

"They want the mornings to disappear.  But, look at the meddling of this pallera organization that is at the service of vested interest groups," the president said.

The OAS "has no moral or political authority.  But there is no need, nor is it convenient to respond to them.  They are very discredited," said the Latin American leader.

On several occasions, the head of state has criticized the actions of the OAS.  Precisely, in March, he commented that it is an organization that directly depends on the U.S. State Department.

Last week, he pointed out that the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) does not perform its duties with professionalism.  "They act in a biased manner.  They are not reliable," he warned.
