Havana, June 14 (RHC)-- Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced the appointment of Alicia Barcena, former director of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and an experienced diplomat, to the post of Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

He explained that Ms. Barcena, currently Mexico's ambassador to Chile, would be taking up her post in ten days' time, as she still had a number of outstanding issues to deal with in Santiago de Chile.

He highlighted Ms. Barcena's diplomatic career and said he was very pleased "because we're going to be well represented with her.   She's a professional diplomat with conditions and principles and she's going to help us in this final stretch of our administration."
