China and the US discuss key issues on the bilateral agenda

Beijing, June 28 (RHC) Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xi Feng held a telephone conversation with US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman to follow up on key issues on the bilateral agenda.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, in the dialogue both officials reviewed the issues discussed during the visit of the top US diplomat, Antony Blinken, to Beijing last week.

In the call, Ambassador Xie Feng said that a strong and stable relationship between China and the United States is in the interests of both countries and the international community.

He recalled calls by Chinese President Xi Jinping to base bilateral ties on respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, while reiterating his country's red lines on sensitive issues such as the Taiwan issue.

The diplomat said China and the United States should work in the same direction, enhance dialogue and manage differences.

Meanwhile, Under Secretary Sherman welcomed Ambassador Xie Feng to his new position and reiterated the importance of keeping communication channels open.

This phone conversation follows US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to China last week, during which he met with Xi Jinping and other senior officials. After these meetings, the two powers agreed to increase their high-level interactions and people-to-people contacts, as well as manage and seek solutions to their differences. (Source: PL)
