Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi begins a visit to Singapore

Beijing, August 10 (RHC) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi begins a visit to Singapore, Malaysia, and Cambodia on Thursday, seeking to strengthen cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agenda of the head of diplomacy extends until August 13 and commemorates the tenth anniversary of the mega-project launched by the Asian giant.

"The Southeast Asian countries have been at the forefront of advancing the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, and they are our important partners for Belt and Road cooperation," the Foreign Ministry statement said.

The text emphasizes the good state of relations with Singapore, Malaysia, and Cambodia, while foreseeing a new boost to strategic communication with these nations.

"China is willing to work with the three countries to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative," the Foreign Ministry states.

Furthermore, to "promote economic recovery, safeguard peace and tranquility, deepen exchanges and mutual learning, and make an even greater contribution to the peace, stability, and development of the region."

Wang is traveling at the invitation of the foreign ministers of each of these nations.

The Belt and Road Initiative is a mega-project proposed in 2013 by Xi Jinping that promotes the creation of infrastructure and interconnection among countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe in the first place.

This plan is expanding to other geographic areas, and its initial objectives, which were primarily economic and commercial, now include dialogue between peoples, cultural and scientific exchanges, green development, among other fields. (Source: PL)
