Anti-Smuggling Actions Bring Positive Results in Venezuela

Caracas, October 1 (PL-RHC)-- The Venezuelan Government strategy to fight smuggling is producing positive results, with large volumes of food and fuel having been seized by authorities.

According to data released, the Emergency Plan activated in mid-August has prevented the smuggling of 5,651 tons of food.

Feed amounting to 1,804 tons has also been seized along with 3,225 tons of building materials and 3.11 million liters of fuel.

The operation also included the arrest of 794 people linked to the crime of smuggling, and the dismantling of 74 organized groups who were engaged in this illegal activity .

The Head of Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Ceofanb), Vladimir Padrino, said the government actions involve a line of roadblocks in the border areas, the introduction of measures to control the movement of products from factories and warehouses, and an audit process at businesses and shopping centers in order to prevent hoarding and speculation.
