Havana, January 26 (RHC) -– Ecuador has drawn up its working strategy for its pro-tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which the South American country will assume on January 28th.

Telesur TV cited Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño as he said that his country will propose joint work in the region to declare Latin America and the Caribbean a region free of extreme poverty.

The 3rd CELAC Summit, to take place in Costa Rica, will address poverty in this part of the world, social inclusion and other issues.

There is no reason for extreme poverty to prevail and it is also crucial to lower poverty and inequity levels, said Patiño, who also favored the creation of a new regional financial system, the development of science, technology and road, productive and energy infrastructures.

Meanwhile, President Rafael Correa, who will receive the pro-tempore presidency of the organization from his counterpart, Luis Guillermo Solis, said that he will promote relations with other regional blocs.
