Tegucigalpa, July 7 (PL-RHC) Honduran security organizations destroyed 72 clandestine airstrips used by drug traffickers, said chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Fredy Santiago Diaz.
The Air Force is monitoring the territory and serves as support for the work of the National Security Force, in charge of destroying these facilities, Diaz explained.
The administration of President Juan Orlando Hernandez ordered the demolition of the airstrips. Diaz stressed the work carried out in his country prevent further spread of scourge of drugs. Honduras is used as a corridor by criminal groups involved in drug trafficking.
Diaz also promised major efforts by authorities to obtain more and better results in this field because Honduras is one of the most violent Latin American countries, with the highest homicide rate in the region.
During the VII Summit of the Americas held in Panama, President Hernandez revealed that 80 and 90 percent of violence in Central America is linked to drug trade.
