Havana, March 5 (RHC) – Silvio Platero, President of the Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of the Peoples, recently highlighted the importance of media outlets in raising awareness of the danger of foreign military bases around the world.

According to Platero, speaking at the National Council of the Cuban Association of Social Communicators underway in the Havana Convention Center, the U.S has over 800 military bases around the world, while a further 200 or so NATO facilities can be found in different countries.

He went on to praise the work of social communicators in Cuba, toward raising awareness around issues of peace and war, and reiterated the importance of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted in 2014 during the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, in Havana.
