Havana, October 31 (RHC)-- The Council of Ministers of Spain has approved a royal decree by which it confers on the historian of the city of Havana, Eusebio Leal, the Grand Cross of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Charles III.

The distinction, one of the oldest in the world, is conferred a few days before the State trip to Cuba by King Philip VI and Queen Letizia.

Leal Spengler already holds other Spanish decorations, including the Grand Cross of the  Order of Isabella the Catholic, awarded by the Government in 2017.

Instituted by Ferdinand VII in 1815, the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic is one of the main distinctions awarded in Spain.

It rewards the meritorious services rendered to Spain by nationals and foreigners, which contribute to favoring its relations of friendship and cooperation with the rest of the international community.
