Havana, February 4 (RHC)-- The Ministry of Higher Education issued new regulations for admission to universities. An article by the Vanguardia newspaper states from now on, students who win national and provincial contests will have direct access to their careers, without having to take placement exams.

According to the note, careers will be granted to the first six places in the case of the national contest level and to the first three in the case of the provincial category.

The careers granted to the national contestants will be in correspondence with the profile of the subject to be evaluated for the first place. At the same time, the remaining five will be of pedagogical profile.

For the contestants at the provincial level, the career options will correspond to the subject in which they are competing and will have a pedagogical profile.

For regular courses, access is conditioned to the passing of entrance exams, and the availability of slots open in each particular field.

In Cuba, access to all levels of education is free. The island currently has 50 universities with 113 specialties.
