Measures against Covid-19 reinforced in six Cuban municipalities

Havana, April 9 (RHC)-- The communities in Cuba most affected by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus are today reinforcing the protocols for social distancing, in accordance with the stage of limited autochthonous transmission.

To date, the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) has confirmed six local transmission events, so the municipal and provincial Defense Councils are determining the steps to be taken.

Public health Minister José Ángel Portal said on Wednesday that authorities are evaluating other local infections which may open up in the coming hours and days, according to the epidemiological assessment of each one, Prensa Latina reported.

According to the minister, local transmission was detected in six municipalities in the provinces of Matanzas, Pinar del Río, La Habana, Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey and Holguín.

In response, localities like the Camilo Cienfuegos community in the Consolación del Sur municipality, in the western province of Pinar del Río, has reinforced  isolation for the more than 1,400 inhabitants, which includes food supply and research.

In the neighborhood of El Carmelo, in Havanal, the circulation of people and vehicles is limited and bus stops are disinfected, among other actions. According to the provisions, the necessary food staple are ensured for the population and attention to the most vulnerable is intensified.

The Argentina People's Council, in the municipality of Florida, remains in reinforced isolation, after five cases were confirmed there with Covid-19, so the population remains within its geographical area under permanent epidemiological surveillance.
