Brussels, April 19 (RHC)-- The Belgian Coordinating Committee against the blockade of Cuba will launch a new campaign at the end of April to demand the lifting of the illegal measures imposed by the United States.

Wim Leysens, one of the organizers of the campaign made the announcement over the weekend in Brussels.  In statements to Prensa Latina, the activist said that the initiative includes denunciations by Cubans themselves about the consequences of the blockade in daily life on the island.

"We want their testimonies to be known about how the blockade affects them and the suffering that President Donald Trump's policies cause with those limitations," he said.

According to Leysens, social networks will be an active part of the campaign, especially Facebook, in which more than 40 groups that are members of the Coordinadora will participate.

"We have three years of experience in the work against the blockade of Cuba, from a very heterogeneous platform, because it includes solidarity movements, trade unions, non-governmental organizations and cultural initiatives, he explained.

With respect to the current scenario, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, he said it makes the campaign efforts more complicated, but without changing the efforts to demand the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade.

Leysens noted that at the beginning of this month, the Coordinator sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Belgium, Sophie Wilmès, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, asking them to demand that the United States cease its unilateral measures against Cuba.
