U.S. blockade againts Cuba denounced in Belgian festival

Brussels, Sept 19 (RHC) Deputy Yoerky Sánchez and Ambassador Yaira Jiménez denounced the extraterritoriality and consequences of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, while speaking this weekend at the Belgian political-cultural festival ManiFiesta.

In view of that extraterritorial character, the economic, commercial and financial blockade reaches all countries, including Europe, Sanchez said while speaking at a forum organized by the solidarity association Cubanismo.be, in the 12th edition of the meeting held in the coastal city of Ostend.

The member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the Council of State pointed out that Washington's siege impacts all sectors, including the energy sector, hindering the acquisition of spare parts for power plants.

According to Sánchez, who heads the island's delegation at ManiFiesta, the limitation on foreign investments is another example of the extraterritorial scope of the siege imposed more than six decades ago.

For her part, Ambassador Jimenez stressed the importance of denouncing the around the world, based on the purpose of successive U.S. administrations to enforce national laws beyond their borders to suffocate the Antillean nation.

In 2019, then President Donald Trump activated Title III of the Helms-Burton Act to accentuate the extraterritorial component of Washington's policy against the Caribbean island, a decision maintained by his successor in the White House, Joseph Biden.

The diplomat shared with the large audience present, the attack that the blockade represents for the daily life of Cubans, particularly women.

Jimenez spoke at another ManiFiesta forum on the progress achieved by Cuban women with the Revolution, which empowered them and granted them full rights of participation in society and its various spheres.(Source:PL)
