Havana, July 4 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has highlighted the joint effort of science and the government in the fight against COVID-19.

In a message posted on his Twitter account, the diplomat said that 460 research projects on drugs, equipment and devices against the pandemic are supported by the preparation of a health system to which 27.5 percent of the state budget is allocated.

Rodríguez added that science and the executive branch of the Caribbean nation have coordinated their actions to combat the COVID-19.

At a recent meeting with researchers from prestigious scientific centres in the largest of the Antilles, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the contributions of this sector as indispensable to minimising the effects of the pandemic.

"From the scientific research we are getting to know the virus better; they are also giving us elements of issues that we have to deal with in a different way; but they are corroborating the measures we have applied and the issues we have insisted on, such as physical distancing, social isolation and the use of the nasobuco (face mask)."
