Cuba conducts over 5,000 PCR tests in a day to diagnose COVID-19

Havana, August 28 (RHC)—The National Director of Epidemiology at the Public Health Ministry, Dr. Francisco Duran said that Cuba reached a landmark on Thursday with the processing of 5,002 PCR tests in one day.

This achievement results from the addition of new molecular biology laboratories to the task, from 4 which started at the beginning of the pandemic, now there are 12 operating islandwide.

Addressing the daily briefing on COVID-19 Friday, Duran said that 60 samples tested positive. During the last 24 hours, 550 patients with the disease remained hospitalized, five of them were in critical and 18 in serious condition.

The expert warned about the increasing trend of young people being diagnosed with Sars-Cov-2

“In the last few weeks, more than 50% of the newly diagnosed cases have been in the group of 39 years of age and under, including infants, and small children,” he said.

Dr. Duran urged young people to control their behavior
