Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz

Havana, October 27 (RHC)-- Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero reaffirmed Tuesday that the island's premise in the fight against Covid-19 is to preserve the life of its people.

The head of government explained to the deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power the plan for confronting the pandemic, in a meeting held virtually on Tuesday with the presence of President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Vice President Salvador Valdés.

In the encounter,  which precedes the ordinary session, on Wednesday, Marrero said that the country adapted its work strategy based on the knowledge acquired, experiences, considerations of scientists, and other elements. Still, the human being has always been the center.

The strategy has three main goals: to gradually and asymm

etrically begin the new normality, mitigate the economic impact of Covid-19 and the intensification of the blockade, and develop the capacities to fight possible epidemiological events that may arise.

Marrero added that the work system, which came into effect on October 12, has 189 measures and three stages, for the establishment of which health indicators are taken into account such as the rate of incidence per hundred thousand inhabitants in the last 15 days and the number of diagnostic tests carried out.

The Premier pointed out that the country is going through the new normal. It has three provinces in the phase of limited native transmission: Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila, and Pinar del Río; and Havana is in the third phase of recovery.

He stressed the importance of the capital's recovery for the nation to resume its rhythm truly, but even though particular indicators have been defined for that territory, the recovery process will not be rushed, he said.

The Prime Minister insisted on the necessary lifestyle changes, incorporating hygienic measures, social distancing, and individual and collective responsibility.

Since December 2019, Cuba issued an early warning to the health system due to the appearance of an unknown disease in China. In January, it had already approved a plan for the prevention and control of Covid-19, with 497 measures.

Its implementation generated transformations that were later enriched with the design of a strategy for recovery, applied since June, and whose update is in force.
