Havana, November 26 (RHC) --Cuba's Ministry of Public Health ( MINSAP) and Japan's Ministry of Labor and Welfare signed Thursday a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen medical assistance.

According to information from MINSAP, the agreement will also aid the public health system and share experiences in the treatment of the elderly.

The health memorandum signed between the two countries is the first of its nature. It was signed by the Minister of Health in Cuba, Jose Angel Portal, and the Japanese Ambassador to the Caribbean island, Kazuhiro Fujimura.

The diplomat highlighted his satisfaction with the agreement and said it is a  tangible result of the joint work between two countries, especially in the midst of the international health emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The international community agrees that working together on health issues is fundamental to addressing Covid-19. The document reaffirms our peoples' will to consolidate their ties following that shared purpose,' Fujimura said.

For his part, the Cuban minister highlighted the broad possibilities of cooperation between the two countries and thanked the Japanese government for its significant contributions to the national health system through various agencies and institutions.

"We ratify the unwavering friendship ... and we are convinced that our nations, with a common history of more than 90 years of diplomatic relations, will continue working together to advance in solidarity," Portal said.
