Cuba: New wages, pensions, and social welfare benefits

Havana, December 11 (RHC) -- In a follow up to the announcement of the monetary reform announced Thursday, a special edition of the Official Gazette published 19 resolutions of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) establishing the new changes in the distribution of the population's income regarding salaries, pensions, and social assistance benefits.

From New Year's Day on, the Cuban Peso will remain the only currency and an exchange rate of 24 Cuban pesos for one dollar. The country's minimum wage will stand at 2,100 pesos per month.

Divided into 32 groups of complexity, wages will be established according to work and break regime. The minimum pension for age and total disability will be 1,528 pesos.
