Havana, December 23 (RHC)--In preparation for the beginning of the monetary reform in Cuba next January 1, workers will start receiving a cash advance as of this Wednesday.

The amount to be accrued will be one thousand Cuban pesos, and the purpose of the advance is to make sure that the people are ready to face the new prices on day zero.

Later in January, the workers will receive their salary increased minus that amount.

All salaried employees who are part of the workers' registry - regardless of their date of entry into the work center - and are receiving a salary or social security benefits (medical certificate, or maternity leave) or are on vacation are entitled to the advance.

It also covers those who are studying abroad in the interest of the state and receive their average salary and salaried employees in the cooperative agricultural sector.

Those who are on unpaid leave or those who are laid off and who unjustifiably did not accept new employment will not receive the advance.

Following the country's new economic context, the Ministry of Finance and Prices modified the salary scale, setting the minimum wage at 2,100 Cuban pesos.

The rationed family basket corresponding to January 2021 will be available as of December 30, and the sale will be carried out with the new prices set.
