Havana, March 18 (RHC)-- Oxfam International supports sustainable and equitable development, food security, and gender justice, says the director in Cuba of that entity, Elena Gentili.

In remarks to Prensa Latina news agency,  she also said that the organization is a global movement made up of people who work together to fight inequalities and thus end poverty and injustice in the world.

Oxfam currently executes 12 cooperation projects in Cuba with the island's organizations and institutions, which overall amount to 6,5 million euros.

At the international level, this entity denounces the neoliberal policies that cause injustice, Gentili commented.

The 2008 global economic crisis showed that something was not working because governments and central banks, instead of applying social policies, decided to support millionaires, she added.

Gentili referred in this sense to a recent report by Oxfam International, called The Inequality Virus, according to which in only nine months, the thousand largest fortunes in the world recovered from the economic losses caused by Covid-19.
