Havana, May 14 ( RHC)-- Cuba recorded 20 traffic accidents per day on average in the first four months of 2021, which have left a balance of one death every 20 hours and around 15 injured per day, local media reported.

From January to April 2403 accidents occurred on the island, which caused the death of 155 people and injuries to another 1804. This according to figures released by the head of theNational Road Safety Commission, Reynaldo Becerra, quoted by Granma newspaper.

These numbers reflect a reduction in accident indicators compared to 2020 and are part of decreasing traffic accidents registered in Cuba in the last three years, the source said.

In a press conference, Becerra pointed out that the human factor and the irresponsibility of pedestrians and drivers have been determinant in 67% of the incidents on the streets, whose main causes were the inattention to the control of vehicles, violations to traffic signs, speeding and technical malfunctions of the means of transport.
