New York, Aug 11 (RHC)-- In an extensive interview reproduced by the GrayZone website, historian and writer Piero Gleijeses, a professor at Johns Hopkins University, affirmed that the United States punishes Cuba for its resistance and for practicing an anti-imperialist foreign policy that bothers it.

According to Prensa Latina, the historian and professor stated that the sanctions imposed by Washington on Havana have no justification, and those dating back to the Cold War era were to punish the island for its foreign policy.

However, the author of Missions in Conflict: Havana, Washington and Africa 1959-1976 referred to the actions of anti-imperialist Cuba, such as the fight against apartheid and the help to sustain liberation movements in the world.

He also exemplified the achievements in medicine, such as the medical missions since the 1960s and the creation of the Latin American School of Medicine by Fidel Castro.

The writer stressed that these are challenging times for Cuba in the fight against the pandemic, as it is also difficult to continue creating, in the current context, the society it aspires to, especially without falling into the hands of the U.S. government.
