Magnitude 7 quake strikes western Haiti

Santiago de Cuba, August 14 (RHC) – Cuban National Center for Seismic Research (CENAIS) reported a 7,4  magnitude earthquake in  Haiti on Saturday morning.

The quake, reported at  8:28 local time, was located 272 kilometers Southeast of Maisi, in the eastern province of Guantanamo.

In Haiti, the long tremor was felt throughout the country, and material damage has already been recorded in the cities of Jeremie and Les Cayes, according to witness images in the island's southwestern peninsula.

The tremor was felt in Eastern Cuba. In Santiago, witnesses said it was frightening, cabinets and fridges swayed, and people sought refuge.

Reportedly, it was also elt in  The Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos Islands.
