Havana, Aug 29 (RHC) -- Cuba's Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, thanked the new donation sent by the Chinese Government to the island to support the fight against Covid-19.

During the reception of the aircraft, he described the cargo as a true gesture of solidarity, friendship, and cooperation that reinforces the island's capacity to face the pandemic.

The 22-ton donation includes thousands of masks, suits, gloves and goggles, antigen tests, and other items necessary for the daily work of medical personnel involved in patient care.

During the delivery ceremony, the Chinese ambassador in Havana, Ma Hui, expressed his confidence that the Cuban people will overcome the current health emergency to regain order in the economy and daily life.

'China and Cuba stand in solidarity and support each other in the fight against COVID-19, which not only reflects the brotherhood between the two countries but also interprets the concept of the community with a shared future for mankind,' he asserted.

The Chinese diplomat also said that China would continue to offer emergency donations of medical supplies, medicines, and food to the island, Xinhua news agency reported.

Previously, the Asian country sent the Caribbean nation 30 lung ventilators at the end of last July and then supplied 150 oxygen concentrators last week.

In addition, the community of Cubans living in China donated 102,400 syringes for vaccination on the island against Covid-19, a batch that is already in the Antillean country.

The Chargé d'Affaires of the Cuban embassy in Beijing, Andro Vázquez, told Prensa Latina that this is the true way to assist Cuba and not by imposing blockades or coercive measures, as the United States insists.
