Esteban Lazo highlights relations between Cuba and Cambodia

Havana, Sep 24 (RHC) During official talks with the prime minister of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the president of Cuba's National Assembly of Peoples Power (parliament), Esteban Lazo highlighted the ties of friendship and brotherhood that unite both nations.

 

According to a note published on the island's legislative website, Lazo explained that the country is immersed in a deep process of perfecting the People's Power system and the implementation of the 2019 Constitution.

 

In addition, he said that the Caribbean nation is facing "an economic war imposed by the U.S. government and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic."

 

He stressed that the Cuban and Cambodian legislative bodies can contribute to the strengthening of bilateral ties, with the promotion of common goals in the health, sports, and education sectors.

 

He expressed his gratitude for Cambodia's invariable stance in international organizations against the US blockade, as well as the donation of two thousand tons of rice.

 

The chairman of the legislative body reiterated Cuba's interest and willingness to join the Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as an observer.

 

He also sent greetings to the President of the Cambodian National Assembly, Heng Samrin, and the head of the Senate, Say Chhum.

 

"We wish to see economic-commercial and cooperation ties reach the same level as our political ties. We highly value his visit to Cuba, which will contribute to further strengthening the solidarity, unity, and strong support between the two nations," he concluded.

 

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated the Cuban parliament, people, and government for the vaccines developed to confront Covid-19, which "have not only been used by its people but also by other countries, including some Asian countries such as Vietnam".

 

The Prime Minister thanked the reception offered and acknowledged the efforts and achievements of the Caribbean nation in the face of the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade by the United States.

 

 

In this regard, he added that the Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a communiqué requesting the cessation of the hostile policy.

 

He also recognized the potential of bilateral cooperation in areas such as health and sports.
