Havana, October 15 (RHC)-- The U.S. blockade is today the worst outrage against the human rights of the Cuban people, said African-American lawyer Rosemarie Mealy.   "Let Cuba live.  This country has the right to live without a blockade," the writer, journalist and university professor told Prensa Latina, referring to her month-long experience on the island.

Many times in the United States, we demand the end of the blockade, but perhaps we do not know more about the real impact it has on the lives of Cubans, on their daily lives.

They face shortages of food, medicine and other necessities and the spirit of resistance and resilience of the people is admirable, he emphasized.
Mealy, who has visited Cuba for more than 40 years, affirmed that he comes to the largest of the Antilles on behalf of thousands of people in U.S. territory who oppose that policy, which has lasted for more than six decades.

I always come back -she added- because I am also a Black woman and I feel free, without the fear of being killed or attacked by the police because of the color of my skin, as often happens in the United States.

I believe in socialism and I have always defended the Cuban Revolution, said Mealy, who in 2011 was awarded the Friendship Medal by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

On this occasion, the visit was to give a seminar at the University of Havana on the validity of the thought of Cuban leader Fidel Castro and African-American Malcolm X, invited by the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

Author of the book Fidel and Malcolm X, memoirs of an encounter, Mealy commented that she came to the island many times after that first trip in 1972 with the fifth contingent of the Venceremos Brigade.

Currently a member of the Interfaith Foundation for Community Organization IFCO-Pastors for Peace, he anticipated that in New York activities in support of Cuba are being prepared prior to the presentation at the UN General Assembly of the draft resolution calling for an end to the blockade.

For the thirtieth time, on November 2 and 3, the text, which has received the majority support of the international community in all these years, will be discussed there.

Only in the first 14 months of Joe Biden's administration, the damages caused by the US economic, financial and commercial blockade amount to six thousand 364 million dollars, according to official data.
