Cuban Vice President visits tobacco fields in Pinar del Rio

Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Oct 21 (RHC) On Friday, Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes visited the tobacco fields hit by Hurricane Ian in western Cuba on September 27.

 

In the San Juan y Martinez municipality, he assessed the main damage to the tobacco houses (for drying the leaf), and the leaf selection and talked with producers, who are engaged in the recovery tasks, he said on Twitter.

 

Moreover, when he arrived at the ‘El Cafetal’ People´s Council in this municipality, he verified the recovery of the “Escondida” (selection) of tobacco and talked with the workers of the Procedures Office.

 

He tweeted that the homes of most of the covered tobacco workers were damaged, but production and recovery have not stopped.

 

He stressed that the westernmost province of the country is used to dealing with meteorological events “and we must put its experience into practice at this time to advance in the recovery,” he said. (Prensa Latina)
