Cuba to prevent severe forms of Covid-19 with Nasalferon

Havana, Dec 31 (RHC) Given the slight increase in cases of Covid-19 in Cuba, the Ministry of Public Health decided to apply Nasalferon in at-risk groups to avoid severe forms of the disease.

Nasalferon, an antiviral, immunomodulatory, and prophylactic drug, which is applied in intranasal drops, will be used in at-risk groups in Cuba to prevent Covid-19 infection and contribute to patients not suffering from severe forms of the disease," the Cuban Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) reported on the social network Twitter.

This drug, developed by the CIGB and used to fight Covid-19, could be used against different acute respiratory diseases.

The drug is a formulation of recombinant human alpha-2b-interferon for nasal administration, whose immunomodulatory and antiviral properties prevent the replication of SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease, and strengthens the immune system.

This product, of proven safety, had a leading role when the Delta strain of the new coronavirus entered the country and it was necessary to increase the population's defensive response.
