Laos-Cuba Friendship School commemorates José Martí's 170th birthday

Vientiane, Jan 30 (RHC) The Laos-Cuba Friendship School commemorated the 170th anniversary of the birth of the National Hero, José Martí in front of the bust erected in his memory.

The Cuban ambassador to this Southeast Asian country, Enna Viant, expressed her pride and gratitude for the presence of representatives of Laos in two important events recently held in Havana.

For the first time, the Lao People's Democratic Republic was present at the International Conference For the Balance of the World, a theme that reflects a purpose to which José Martí aspired and defended, she said.

She also noted that young Laotians participated together with Cuban leaders and university students in the historic march of torches, which every year starts at the University of Havana to reach the Fragua Martiana, the site where Martí was forced to work at the age of 17 when he was a prisoner.

The Cuban diplomat alluded in particular to the words of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel at the Conference, when he affirmed that "the solidarity that Cuba has given and received, as an inalienable value and principle of the Revolution, could not be blocked, just as the conscience of the peoples cannot be annulled".

Leaders of the International Relations Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, officials of the Foreign Ministry and the General Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Sports, and members of the board of directors of the Lao-Cuba Friendship Association also participated in the meeting.

Furthermore, students of the Spanish language at the National University read a biographical review of the Cuban independence hero, declaimed some of the Simple Verses he wrote, and put a pleasant musical note with the interpretation of the well-known song Guantanamera.

Located in the Saythany district of this capital, the Laos-Cuba Friendship School was inaugurated on October 20, 2020, to celebrate Cuban Culture Day. (Prensa Latina)
