Havana, Feb 2 (RHC) Rogelio Polanco, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, received Thursday the director general of the United Arab Emirates News Agency -WAM-, Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, and his delegation.

At the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Cuban political organization, Polanco thanked the United Arab Emirates News Agency for supporting the participation of delegates from the island in the Global Media Congress last November and reiterated the willingness to strengthen collaboration.

Polanco explained the current process of discussion of the draft Social Communication Law, to be debated soon by the Cuban Parliament.

On Thursday, the Emirati delegation signed three memorandums of understanding with two media outlets on the island, which constitute the basis for expanding collaboration for mutual benefit.

The Cuban News Agency and the newspapers Granma and Juventud Rebelde were the counterparts of these agreements, which should open greater channels for the exchange of content and knowledge.

The day before, the general director of the WAM spoke with executives of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, with whom he also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for joint work, in addition to visiting the headquarters of Prensa Latina.

Al Rayssi said he was very satisfied with the meetings held so far in Cuba, and expressed his gratitude for the kindness and hospitality with which the WAM delegation has been received.

In the conversations, permanent topics were the need to shorten distances between the two countries through the media based on closer collaboration.

Likewise, the participation of Cubans in the first Global Media Congress, last November, and the possibility of a much larger representation of the island in its second edition were also discussed.

Cuba is a key link in the relations with Latin America, an area of interest for the Emirati agency, as its general director commented to ACN.

In statements to the media, he stressed the importance of sharing content related to the Caribbean nation, to enrich the knowledge of the Cuban reality in his country and thus strengthen tourism and trade, in addition to attracting new investors.

He pointed out that more than 62 thousand Latin Americans are living in the Emirates and the idea is that residents can find news from their countries, while the rest of the population can learn about the customs, culture, and current affairs of the area. (Source: Prensa Latina).
