Cuba and Angola strengthen historic ties.

Havana, Feb 18 (RHC) Directors of civil organizations in Angola and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) shared Friday in Luanda, experiences on human solidarity in the national and international spheres.

The president of the Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity with the Peoples (Laasp), Elisa Pedro told the press that she preferred to qualify the meeting as a classroom open to knowledge, instead of using the term meeting.

The common thread of the analysis was supporting Cuba, a country that suffers the longest and most comprehensive economic, commercial, and financial blockade in contemporary history, imposed by the U.S. Government.

Representatives of the association of former Angolan students in Cuba (the Caimaneros) and the Association of Angolan Pre-cadets and Cadets (Assopreca) participated in the dialogue, in addition to Ambassador Esther Armenteros and other diplomats from the island.

Elisa Pedro and the president of the Caimaneros, Agostinho Narciso, talked about valuable initiatives which both organizations carry out in Angolan territories in favor of young people, employment, and help to families in need.

Narciso recalled the campaign promoted by the Caimaneros to send donations to the island after the devastating hurricane Ian in 2022, which highlighted the kindness of its people and the affection for Cubans.

For ICAP, vice-president Victor Gaute highlighted the historical ties of brotherhood and fraternity between the two peoples, as well as the relations with the MPLA party, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, and the Government.

According to the president of the Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity with the Peoples, they ended the conversation with new lights for the daily work based on a shared vision: "Unity is strength, and we must be more united to bring solidarity to our people and the other peoples of the world".

Gaute confirmed that in mid-2023 an African Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will be held in South Africa and "Angola has valuable experiences to share in that forum", he estimated.

The official and ICAP's director for Africa, Yahimi Rodriguez, arrived this Friday in Luanda and began the day with an exchange of ideas with the national leaders of the MPLA youth organization, headed by Crispiniano Dos Santos. (Source: Prensa Latina)
