Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel acknowledged Thursday that the nominees to Parliament are an impressive integral and diverse portrait of the people.

Havana, March 23 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel acknowledged Thursday that the nominees to Parliament are an impressive integral and diverse portrait of the people.

"What we appreciate in the brief life summaries of all the candidates for deputies is an impressive integral and diverse portrait of the people of Cuba," the president wrote on Twitter.

Even though the candidates for the legislative body include personalities such as the president of the Republic himself, high-ranking government officials, artists and sportsmen with regular media presence and renowned scientists, they are mostly made up of citizens who are not known beyond their locality.

Precisely, according to the Electoral Law, out of the 470 legislators that will form the National Assembly of People's Power, 356 will be district delegates (basic cell of the government system) and of provincial origin, and only 114 (24.2 percent) national delegates.

If all of them are elected, 64 percent of the parliament will be renewed, with representatives from almost all sectors of society, 95.5 percent of them with a university degree, more than half of them women, and one out of every five legislators under 35 years of age.

At the end of tomorrow's meeting of the nominees with the inhabitants of the municipalities, it remains to wait for the results of the suffrage on Sunday, March 26, direct, free and secret, in which the voter may vote for all the names appearing on his ballot or for one or several of the candidates.
