CITMA representatives meet with diplomats at environmental convention

Havana, May 7 (RHC) Representatives of Cuba's Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) exchanged information in the capital with the diplomatic corps belonging to the Group of 77 + China on the 14th Convention on Environment and Sustainable Development.

Deputy Minister Adianez Taboada Zamora and other executives of the organization gave details to the respective ambassadors about these multiple events, which will be held from July 3 to 7 at the Havana Convention Palace.

One of its main activities will be the meeting of Ministers and High Authorities of Environment, Science, and Innovation, to be held on July 4, CITMA specialists informed during their recent meeting with the foreign emissaries, held at the José Martí National Library of Cuba.

They added that the adoption of a Final Declaration ratifying the positions of the participants of the Group of 77 and China, a mechanism for developing countries to coordinate their positions in the economic, social, and budgetary negotiations in the deliberations of the United Nations, is foreseen.

They pointed out that the document will be circulated to all member countries of the Group through the G77 and China Chapter in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya, for discussion and approval before this Ministerial Meeting, which will be held in a face-to-face and virtual format.

They emphasized that the principles of their participation in this meeting seek to promote action against climate change and an analysis of biodiversity, soil degradation, plastic pollution, hazardous waste, and various chemical substances.

Likewise, the promotion of unity, solidarity, and international cooperation and work to materialize projects from the South, in support of the post-pandemic recovery of the COVID-19 ecosystems and attention to their needs and particularities.

In addition, the use of science, technology, and innovation for sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development throughout life for all people.

The event will also have the capacity for those ministers or authorities who cannot attend in person to participate virtually, either through a live broadcast or recorded video.

G-77 + China emerged in New York in 1963 when 75 developing countries came together to reconcile their negotiating positions at the First United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
