Havana, July 1 (RHC)-- The president of Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, sent congratulations to the island's historians, on the occasion of today's celebration of their day.

Through the legislative body's Twitter account, Lazo praised the work of Cuban historians and catalogued their work as essential in the preservation of the past, present and future of the homeland.

The date recalls the appointment of intellectual Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring as historian of Havana on July 1, 1935.

In 1936, at the initiative of this researcher and essayist, the Office of the Historian of the City was created and he was in charge of its organization.

In addition, he was in charge of the editions of this office, such as the Cuadernos de historia habanera, the Actas capitulares del Ayuntamiento de La Habana and the Colección histórica cubana y americana.

The National Committee of the Union of Historians of Cuba established the date as Cuban Historian's Day as a tribute to the researcher's essay saga, and to the remarkable experience of the office he was in charge of, which would later spread throughout the country. (Source: Prensa Latina)
