Luanda, August 20-- (RHC) The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez arrived in Luanda to begin an official visit to the Republic of Angola, the first in his capacity as Head of State to the sister African nation.

After 2:00 p.m. local time, 9:00 a.m. in Cuba, the aircraft that carried the Cuban delegation after completing a journey of more than 11,000 kilometers between Havana and Luanda landed at the 4 de Febrero International Airport on Sunday.

At the air terminal, the Cuban President was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tete Antonio, together with other authorities of the Angolan government.

The official delegation of our country is also composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, the Minister of Public Health José Ángel Portal Miranda and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ana Teresita González, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anayansi Rodríguez, and the Cuban Ambassador to the Republic of Angola, Esther Armenteros, along with other officials.

According to the planned agenda, the Cuban president will develop an intense program in Angola that includes, among other activities, the official reception, talks at the highest level and the signing of bilateral agreements.

The presence of the Cuban President in Angola gives continuity to the systematic high-level visits between the two countries and updates the excellent state of bilateral ties between the two countries.

Economic and cooperation ties between Havana and Luanda are developing at a high level and there are prospects for their further increase, while political relations maintain a friendly and favorable course, marked by a frequent flow of delegations between the two countries.

Both countries established diplomatic relations on November 15, 1975, after the independence from Portuguese colonialism; but with the MPLA they date back to 1965, from the interview of Commander Ernesto Guevara with Dr. Agostinho Neto.

In Angola, our country wrote one of the most beautiful pages of internationalism in the History of Humanity. For more than a decade, Cuban combatants contributed and accompanied that sister African nation to repel and achieve the victory over the Apartheid troops, which later resulted in the independence of the Republic of Namibia and the end of the Apartheid policy in South Africa.

The Republic of Angola is located on the Atlantic Coast of the African continent and has more than 35 million inhabitants (Source: Radio Rebelde).
