Cuban president congratulates Frei Betto on his birthday

Windhoek, August 27 (Prensa Latina)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Brazilian theologian and intellectual Frei Betto on the occasion of his 79th birthday and highlighted his battles for the poor of the Earth.
 
Through his account on X, formerly Twitter, the president expressed that "from Africa, where a better possible world is beginning to be glimpsed, with the #BRICS2023 Summit, we have remembered dear Frei Betto very much".

Congratulations, brother!" the head of state wrote on the social network.

Born on August 25, 1944, Frei Betto studied journalism, anthropology, philosophy and theology, in addition to being the author of 74 books published in Brazil and abroad.

He holds, among other awards, the Juca Pato Prize for his book Fidel and Religion; the Solidarity Medal, awarded by the Cuban Government; the Paulo Freire Trophy for Social Commitment (2000), from the Brazilian Psychology Councils and the ALBA Award for Literature, in recognition of his literary work as a whole.

He is an advisor to pastoral and social movements, member of the World Council of the José Martí Project of International Solidarity and since 2019 advises the Food Security and Nutritional Education Plan in Cuba, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Frei Betto collaborates with several newspapers, magazines, websites and blogs in Brazil and abroad.  He has been actively involved in the political life of Brazil for the last 60 years.
