Cuba advocates at UNESCO from the G77 for unity and cooperation

Havana, Nov 10 (RHC) Cuba reiterated at UNESCO its vision from the pro tempore presidency of the Group of 77 of the importance of unity and cooperation between the countries of the South.

Naime Ariatne Trujillo, Cuban Minister of Education and head of the Cuban delegation to the 42nd General Conference of UNESCO, specified in a ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 and the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries that the historical demands of the countries of the South respond to areas such as education, culture, the environment, science, technology and innovation.

Trujillo insisted on the significance granted by Cuba since its management at the head of the Group to dialogue and strategic alliances that allow to face current and future crises.

Regarding the challenges faced by the nations of the South and humanity in general, the Cuban minister mentioned the prevailing economic order, which fuels geopolitical tensions and the systemic and multidimensional crisis in the health, climate, energy, food, economic and ethical sectors.

She warned that the modest progress achieved in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda is at risk of being reversed, and that the aspiration to leave no one behind is very far from being fulfilled.

In her speech at the event held in the context of the 42nd General Conference of UNESCO, which meets in Paris from November 7 to 22, she denounced the more than thirty measures and systems of unilateral coercive measures against developing countries that continue in full force.

The representative of the island reviewed some of the relevant moments of the Cuban Presidency of the Group of 77, among them the forums held in Havana in February by the Ministers of Education, in May by those of Culture, and in July of ministers and high authorities of the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Likewise, she highlighted the relevance of the recent Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Group of 77, also held in the Cuban capital and resulting in the approval of a declaration in favor of the development and the ethical and responsible use of science, technology and innovation.

The declaration also advocates for the strengthening and expansion of infrastructure for research and development, while calling for the promotion of new research, development and transfer of the necessary technologies. (Source: PL)
