Cuban folklore ensemble at international festival in India

The pprogram of the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba includes traditional expressions such as the Lucumí tradition, as well as contemporary ones like the son, bolero and rumba

 

Havana, Nov 24 (RHC) Members of the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba will participate in the 7th International Folklore Festival of India that will take place from today until November 26 in Calcutta.

With the music and dance show The Root and Time, the group, led by its director, Leiván García, will close the festival organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

Its proposal ranges from traditional expressions such as the Lucumí tradition and dances referring to the gods of the Yoruba pantheon Yemayá, Elegbá, Ogún; to contemporary, ones like the son, bolero, rumba and casino.

According to Leiván García, director of the group, the performances are not mere artistic showcases but rather seek to highlight the diversity of cultural expressions of the Caribbean nation, together with traditional theater scenes.

Likewise, as part of the efforts to promote cultural relations between India and Cuba, the musical dance group will also perform on November 29 in New Delhi in a program organized by the Cuban embassy.

Recently, representatives of the renowned artistic group exchanged with young people from a higher education center in the city of Shillong, in the Maghalaya state. (Source: PL)
