Mexican researcher strengthens ties with Cuban institution

Havana, Nov 30 (RHC) Doctor of Science Lorena María Durán, expert at the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada (Cicese), in Mexico, seeks to strengthen scientific collaboration with Cuba.

During her visit to the Center for Environmental Studies of Cienfuegos (CEAC), the researcher's main purpose was to establish a framework agreement for collaboration between the Cienfuegos institution and her center, as well as supervise the activities carried out in Cuba by the Master in Sciences Gabriel Liván Rojas.

During her stay at the CEAC, from November 27 to December 1, the specialist also defined common points of interest for scientific research on environmental issues and promoting the exchange and development of joint projects.

As part of her agenda, she participated in the collection of macroalgae in the coastal area for the processing and analysis of samples, and exchanged experiences with researchers from the Bioassays and Microbiology section of the CEAC on the management of a microalgae strain collection.

Durán is a Doctor in Marine Sciences with honorable mention and a specialist in marine resource management at the Cicese Department of Marine Biotechnology. She is also a winner of the 2014 Lázaro Cárdenas Prize.

Cicese is a reference institution in the international scientific context. Its academic excellence supports the development of Mexico and the training of human resources, and contributes to generating knowledge that can contribute to the solution of problems affecting the social and economic environment of the country.
